History

Our local Christian Surfers Rosarito chapter starts back in 2016 when I met Hapa Phillips from Ensenada, then received a visit from our National Director from Mexico, Mike Allbutt in Oct 2017.

From Addiction to Ocean: How Jesus Led Me to Surf

I was on fire for Jesus since I had recently been freed from the chains of alcohol and drug abuse. My family and I were living in La Mision, where we had a small pizza shop. I would go to Ensenada for pizza supplies and other classes. Thats where I met Carlos from Ensenada who told me about a guy who was on fire for Jesus and surfs!!! I was so stoked as I had never learned to surf. I met Hapa (Keith Phillips), who gladly welcomed me and helped me out. He gave me a surfboard and wetsuit and got me in the water. Little by little he gave me tips and guidance on catching waves.

A New Chapter of Faith and Surfing

When I first discovered surfing, it was a long road before I could catch my first wave. But I was drawn to the freedom, the connection with nature, and the way surfing makes you feel embraced by God’s creation. Mike and Hapa came to visit me and shared about a Christian Surfers chapter in Rosarito. At the time, I didn’t even know how to surf, and I honestly doubted anyone would come.

Ensenada to Rosarito

After helping with the CS Ensenada group, I moved further north towards Rosarito. Hapa would tell me stories of surfers that are christians around the world sharing the gospel and helping in the community. I loved the idea of Surfing and Sharing of who Jesus is.

Surfing, Faith, Community

Fast forward 8 years, and we’ve come so far! What started as a small group has evolved into something much greater. We’ve hosted classes and workshops, gone on camps, and connected with other like-minded surfers who follow Jesus. We’ve had the privilege of teaching both kids and adults how to surf, and we’ve also pioneered surf therapy sessions for special needs children, including those with autism and other disorders.

God’s work in our community has been incredible, and we are blessed to have made an impact. Through surfing, we’ve not only strengthened our bond with nature but also with each other, all while growing in faith. We’ve even had the joy of working with orphans and sharing the love of Jesus in a way that transcends words.

Christian Surfers is a world wide movement that exists in 37 nations globally. We are a local chapter based in Rosarito. We are part of the Mexico Christian Surfers thats located in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca.

Statement of Belief

We hold to an evangelical statement of belief. The following is wholeheartedly accepted by us

God

There is one God – creator and sustainer of the universe, eternally unified as three distinct Persons: Father, Son, and Spirit. All are equal, all are God. 

Father

The initiator of all God’s plans, who is both loving and just. 

Son

Jesus, God’s eternally existent Son, virgin-born into the world as fully God and fully human. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a once-for-all payment for our brokenness, and then rose physically from the dead triumphant over evil. Jesus will return to earth to bring God’s plan to completion. 

Spirit

God’s Spirit lives within those who put their faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection, empowering them to grasp undeserved forgiveness, build up His Church, and reflect God’s glory to the world as we are transformed into His likeness. 

Bible

God’s authoritative word, inspired by the Spirit, useful for teaching, correcting, and training in righteousness. It directs our thinking and action regarding all matters of spirituality, ethics and human relationships. 

Humanity

We are all created in God’s image, yet all fall short of His perfection. We earn death and eternal separation from God through our sin. We cannot by our own efforts be reconciled to Him. 

Salvation

We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection. We are reconciled to Him when we trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord. 

Church

All people saved by God form the Church. We equip each other and glorify God through gathering together in holistic worship, covenant community, and transformational mission. 

Commission

Jesus commissions us, as ambassadors of His power and love, to make disciples of all nations.
